Dairy Industry Problem
The problems and diseases that frequently affect the teats and mammary gland of dairy cows have become a real headache for those involved in the dairy industry.
Mastitis is nowadays the main cause of economic losses in the dairy industry, estimated at around US$ 35 billion per year worldwide. This is mainly due to decreased production, discarded milk, the high cost of drugs to combat it, extra work, loss of genetic potential and even veterinary and milking personnel fees. In the United States alone, mastitis accounts for 70% of the total cost of dairy farming, between $107 and $180 per cow/year.
Origin
Cow Guard®
Cow Guard® was born in response to the serious teat and animal health problems associated with dairy cows around the world for decades, essentially due to:
Low definitive effectiveness of “dippings” or “sealants” based on active ingredients classified as disinfectants on the market to date (iodine, chlorhexidine, lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, caprylic capric acid, etc.) despite the use of increasingly higher concentrations (up to 12,000 ppm are described today for some).
Deterioration of skin and teat sphincter quality due to the use of highly irritating disinfectant products.
Overuse and misuse of antibiotics and, with it, the increase in bacterial resistance to antibiotics used to treat intramammary infections.
Low profitability and productivity of the dairy business
This problem led the company Biogenesis Animal Health to create an innovative line of alternative products whose base differs completely from all existing products on the market, betting on the permanent and definitive control of milk quality and mammary health of bovine dairy herds worldwide without compromising food safety, our ecosystem and animal welfare.
Thus, in 2012 Biogenesis Animal Health introduces this innovative line of organic products for topical use classified as “teat protectors” under the name “Cow Guard®” whose active ingredient takes advantage of the properties of copper as a tissue regenerating mineral, wound healing and antimicrobial to promote the regeneration and total protection of the skin and sphincter of the teats of dairy cows, thus seeking to improve the profitability of the dairy farmer.
Properties possessed by Cow Guard®.
Fast and effective tissue regeneration
Accelerates wound healing
No loss of activity in the presence of organic matter
Attacks a wide range of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, algae)
Cow Guard® Line Products
“Nipple protectors, organic based on copper nanoparticles.”
Patented Technology
Cow Guard® products are unique solutions in the market with organic classification, viscous consistency and reddish coloration whose formula consists of copper nanoparticles fused in a liquid base.
Cow Guard® products are specially formulated for the protection of teats of dairy cows throughout their productive life, being applied topically during the dry period and protection of teats prior to milking and protection after milking.
The Cow Guard® Line has a range of products classified in two groups:
Cow Guard® products for dry cows: for use during dry-off and before calving
Cow Guard® products for lactating cows: for use before and after each milking
Biogenesis Animal Health has a team of veterinary medical professionals specialized in our Cow Guard® line, milk quality and mammary health, who will advise you in the field to ensure a correct use of the product.
